Even I can't believe how incredible this season will be. As always, the presenters and the audience participants are equally fascinating.

We're back to the wine tasting format (potluck style) which is easy and a tasty way to learn.

There is a new website!
https://sites.google.com/site/

Check out the schedule on the website, but also see the links about how 360 came to be, and about the Spring 2012 season based on idea generation, aka collaboration between participants! Lets use our resources in creative practice; an except about this below:

From The Power of Curiosity and Collaboration in Creative Practice
Even a good idea must evolve to stay fresh: I'd like for 360 to become a setting that generates collaborative projects. How can a baker benefit from a collaboration with the eastern medicine herbal specialist? For my part, I'll be working to create silhouette visual symbols of emotions with a dancer who studies emotion in technology user experience, and with a social psychologist to create character type drawings. Why should 360 only be a meeting of enthusiastic acquaintances when they can go further to serve their hunger for learning, by creating and innovating with the help of someone's knowledge in a distinct discipline?

I'm honored to have been selected from a thousand applicants to illustrate ten stories for Readers Project! The project aids non-native English speaking children to transition from picture books to reading materials, and consists of 50 books divided into 5 reading levels. The Readers Project is founded by Mr. Jin Jeon in Illinois, creative director for many years at Didimol Publishing Co. in South Korea (www.didimdol.co.kr), the first company to completely revamp previously poorly-designed textbooks.

Welcome to 2011!
Kicking off the year with the cover of Freaky Fountain Literary Magazine! The piece "Train Commute" will be the cover for the issue, which takes its title from T.S. Eliot's dark poem The Hollow Men. The title of the issue: "This Is The Way The World Ends." The board vote was unanimous that this piece best fit the issue. This piece strikes so many as uncheerful and "brooding" even though it's derived from a documented, editorial moment in a Toyko train station, on a moving walkway.

I'm continuing to work on several fine art commissions and textile pieces, and to teach workshops in the area. During the holidays, I worked on a dozen family portrait commissions, often compiled from separate photographs, as well as animal ink drawings and collages for baby nurseries and children's rooms. This personal work is very rewarding for me as it touches the clients and the recipients of these gifts in such a personal and lasting manner.

My work as an art design consultant has been growing. I often work with realtors and new home owners in the bay area to assess the art needs of their new home setting, designing a series of works in a variety of mediums to accommodate their tastes.

In addition to a new series of semi-abstract pieces on food, I've been doing a number of editorial pieces on sports, including skiing, biking, basketball and dance.

Collaboration has begun on a project called Inspired by Raw Material, Inspired By The show will illustrate the contagious aspect of art-making, in which one incorporates material around us not only from natural settings like landscapes but from other artist's creativity, in order to innovate and create new works once again. Editorial photographer Anthony Dimaano, www.dimaanophotography.com is creating portraits of artists in the Bay area, including

360 Spring Session!

There is an informal group called 360 that meets at my place two Wednesday evenings a month to present briefly on topics that have inspired them recently. The group more generally is meant to be a way to process and share something you've learned that has spurred on your curiosity, and to invite others to join you in that discourse.  The spring session kicks off with gusto on February 23rd and is jam packed with fascinating topics. Fall News 2010
Freelance illustration, fine art, and textile design are keeping me busy this fall. I love working on commission, collaborating with clients on projects, and developing my own themes in my gallery and textile work.

Personal obligations have required that I turn down the residency at CESTA in the Czech Republic this September.

In October, I will be presenting a talk and a new body of work about the conceptualization of global politics using abstract images. The presentation will discuss relationships in international politics as well as the process and purpose of translation of such a contextual topic into abstract images. The transition from work looking at sociological issues, depicted in a realistic style to work looking at broader relationships using diagrammatic abstraction will also be touched on. The twenty five pieces displayed will look at 8 civilizations and be completed on Japanese paper.
